As craftsmen, we know the final finish is only as good as the foundation it’s built on. When it comes to preparing metal, the two most common methods are sandblasting (media blasting) and chemical stripping. Choosing the right one is the difference between a finish that lasts for decades and one that fails in a year.

Sandblasting: The Power of Profile Media blasting is a powerful mechanical process. It uses compressed air to propel an abrasive media (like sand, glass bead, or aluminum oxide) at a surface, stripping away old paint, rust, and scale. Its real advantage is creating a “surface profile”—a microscopic series of peaks and valleys in the metal. This textured surface gives the powder coat something to grip onto, creating an incredibly strong mechanical bond.

Chemical Stripping: The Gentle Giant Chemical stripping involves submerging a part in a specialized tank that dissolves the old coating without affecting the base metal. It’s a slower, more gentle process that excels where blasting would be too aggressive. It gets into every nook and cranny that media blasting might miss.

Our Approach At Vector, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all solution. We analyze every component to determine the perfect preparation method. It’s this meticulous, upfront work that allows us to guarantee a finish that is as durable as it is beautiful.
